Official Curated Review
Solid choice. Make the effort to get here. These are your reliable go-to spots, good food, good vibes, no regrets. Not a special-occasion destination, but consistently worth showing up for. The bread and butter of great local dining.
Estate wines worth the drive, atmosphere worth staying for.
We went in February, so we didn't get the full postcard version of Verona Vineyards — no vineyard walks, no sunset views, no patio wine under blue skies. That'll come in summer and fall. We'll be back for that.
But honestly? The inside alone is reason enough to go.
The Vibe
Atmosphere-wise, this place is fantastic. The room feels warm and alive without being chaotic. Live music that night was exactly right — not too loud, not background noise either. Just the right volume with a mix of songs everyone knows and some deeper cuts across genres. The kind of setlist that tells you the musician actually cares. I respect that.
The Wine
The wine does not disappoint. I lean traditional red. My wife leans sweeter Riesling. Both were strong. No gaps. No apologies.
The Upstairs Bar
We also checked out the newer upstairs bar (open since June 2025). Cool space. Couches. Slight country feel without trying too hard. It's the kind of upstairs you want to linger in. I ordered a smoked Old Fashioned and the bartender's smoker didn't cooperate. He shrugged it off more casually than I did. I wanted the smoke. That's the point of ordering it smoked. Minor detail, but worth noting.
Dinner
Dinner is where things got more layered.
We started with the lobster bisque. And this one pains me to write because we love lobster bisque. But it missed for us. Without knowing for certain, it tasted like a tomato-based soup with cream added rather than a shellfish-stock-forward bisque with tomato as an accent. It leaned acidic. It lacked that deep, round, oceanic richness that makes bisque bisque. If you're going to put lobster bisque on the menu, it needs that stock-driven backbone.
That said, the entrées redeemed the night.
The chicken bacon ranch flatbread — three cheese blend, diced Amish chicken, crumbled bacon, ranch (we went no tomatoes) — was very good. Balanced, flavorful, shareable.
My wife's filet was a strong value at $38. Nice crust. Cooked perfectly to medium rare. Tender inside. No complaints.
I ordered the crawfish étouffée. First bite? I wasn't sold. But as it settled together, it got better by the bite. The flavors rounded out. What I took home, I craved later that night and finished without hesitation. That tells you something.
Dessert
Dessert almost didn't happen because we were full, but we squeezed in the crème brûlée. Cooked properly. Clean crack. Solid finish. We wanted to try the Whaler, but we'll be back for it. That's a promise.
The Bottom Line
It wasn't perfect. The smoker didn't smoke. The bisque didn't bisque.
But the vibe? The music? The wine? The upstairs bar? The overall feel?
That's our wheelhouse.
Take out those two misses and we'd be raving. And we know we'll be back multiple times, especially once the weather turns and the vineyards become part of the experience.
That's why Verona Vineyards still earns a Worth the Trip.
We'll see you in the summer. And the Whaler's on deck.
"If it's not better than a chain, it doesn't deserve to be on wellfd."
