Dr. Donald and Phyllis Miller—he a family physician, she an architect, both Ohio State grads who met after WWII—saved this 1864 Civil War-era schoolhouse from demolition in 1961 and converted it to a restaurant in 1962. Now proudly owned and operated by their four children: Chris, Jeff, Pam, and Beth. The original two-story brick schoolhouse (one of the first in the Midwest) serves family-style comfort food on lazy susans in the original classroom—menu written on the actual blackboard. Fried chicken, roast beef, country fried steak, meatloaf, and baked cod come with fresh salads, mashed potatoes, green beans, and sweet cornbread. Walk the grounds, visit the General Store, and hang out with the goats and geese. Over 60 years of making family memories.
