About Thai Pavilion

Opened in October 2023 by three women united by their love of Thai food and culture—Anya Hoffman, Wun Woon, and head chef Premmy—Thai Pavilion brings authentic Thai cuisine to Covington's Scott Street. The restaurant serves traditional dishes like pad thai, red curry, pad kee mao (drunken noodles), khao soi, and massaman curry, with customizable spice levels that can satisfy everyone from mild preferences to "thermonuclear" authentic Thai heat. Named after the Thai cultural concept of pavilions as community gathering places, the restaurant has quickly become a downtown lunch favorite for neighboring office workers and a destination for Northern Kentucky foodies seeking genuine Thai flavors.

Worth the Drive

Really damn good. Go out of your way for this. An hour or two in the car? Worth it. These restaurants are firing on all cylinders, great food, solid atmosphere, memorable experience. You'll be thinking about it the next day.

Some places try to introduce themselves. Others just quietly start delivering.

Thai Pavilion falls into the second category. Tucked into Covington in a space that feels more intentional than expected — full bar, bold geometric mural wrapping the room, globe lights, leather booths — it doesn't overplay anything. It just shows up polished, a little different, and ready to cook.

The Vibe

Laid back, but not lazy. Jazzy music, a room that feels designed instead of assembled, a pace that lets you settle in. This isn't a quick in-and-out Thai spot — it's somewhere you stay a little longer than you planned.

The Food

The crab rangoon arrives first — and sets the tone immediately.

Arranged in a crown around the dipping sauce, fried to a shatter-crisp shell you almost never get, with a filling that's smooth and almost pastry-like at the center. Most places miss this entirely. This didn't.

The sauce leans sweet — almost honey-like — without the neon, syrupy shortcut most places fall back on. Made in-house, just a touch of sugar. Simple, clean, exactly right.

The beef cashew nut comes out loaded. Tender beef, peppers, onions, mushrooms, pineapple, cashews — all sitting in a deep, glossy sauce that has real weight behind it. Not watery. Not rushed. The kind of thing you don't just like; I'd jar it up and drink it.

The rice is done right. Perfectly sticky, holding everything together the way it should. An afterthought at most Thai spots. Not here.

Then the orange chicken.

My wife orders it everywhere. It's her baseline dish, her litmus test. She loved this one. The sauce has dimension — citrus that shows up, sweetness that doesn't take over, enough structure to keep the chicken from going soggy. It holds texture. It carries flavor. It earns the next bite.

Stuffed, it felt like my mouth filed in injunction against my stomach, and I had to eat a little more. It’s like that.

The Bottom Line

Thai Pavilion isn't trying to scream for attention. It doesn't need to.

The food has intention, the room has personality, and the service (owner Wun was fantastic) hits that quiet sweet spot — present without hovering. Small things matter here. Offering a bag for your to-go items without being asked shouldn't stand out. But it does. And it did.

It's not the cheapest spot around. But it backs it up. And it makes you want to come back not just to try something new, but to have the exact same thing again.

That's always the tell.

"If it's not better than a chain, it doesn't deserve to be on wellfd."
