About Mad Mike's Burgers & Fries (Florence)

Same concept, same 100% Black Angus beef, same hand-cut fries — the Florence location on Dixie Highway is the most accessible for the south NKY crowd and consistently draws strong word-of-mouth in the Florence and Erlanger market. The Wreck and the Goliath are regular callouts from regulars, and the build-your-own format means the menu is essentially limitless. Fries earned a national nod from Fast Food Club for best in Kentucky.

If You're Nearby

Glad it's there. Not a place we go out of our way for, but one we're happy to return to when we're in the area. Solid, dependable, and worth stopping into without hesitation if you're nearby.

The Story

The sign says Mad Mike’s. Inside, they’ll tell you it’s Famous Mad Mike’s.

An older couple—immigrants, working every shift—have been owned the Florence location for about a year and a half. One other employee is all we saw.

Nobody’s getting rich here. This is a place run by people who show up every day and do it themselves. You feel that pretty quickly.

The Vibe

Vinyl records line the walls as trim. “Massive Delicious” is painted across the top in red. American Pie is playing, and you half expect it to be coming out of a jukebox.

The dining room has earnest personality. The counter is all business.

It doesn’t feel like a place trying to recreate something—it just never really left it. There’s a UK Wildcats sticker on the wall that definitely wasn’t placed there for aesthetic reasons.

The Food

This is a real burger.

100% Black Angus, fresh-made, good quality beef. The Big Tex comes loaded—bacon, BBQ, beer-battered onion strings, double cheese. No restraint, no attempt to dress it up as something it’s not.

Mine came a touch past where I’d want it (closer to well than medium), but it still got finished. That usually settles it.

Fries are done right. Crispy, salted properly, exactly what they should be.

They come out on a tray with a squeeze bottle sitting there, and you don’t even think about it—you just grab it and go. No one’s overthinking anything here.

The Bottom Line

No frills. No shortcuts. A legitimate burger made by people who are actually in the building every day making it.

Drive past the McDonald’s up the road.

If You’re Nearby — and in Florence, you probably are.

"If it's not better than a chain, it doesn't deserve to be on wellfd."
