Official Curated Review
Really damn good. Go out of your way for this. An hour or two in the car? Worth it. These restaurants are firing on all cylinders, great food, solid atmosphere, memorable experience. You'll be thinking about it the next day.
The Story The Greyhound Tavern has been a Northern Kentucky institution since 1921, and it shows — in the best way. Multiple dining rooms, tin ceilings, wood-paneled walls, a Dixie Tea Room tucked in the back, and a marble bar top that means business. This is a place that has been doing the same things for a long time and has gotten very good at them.
The Vibe Comfortable, unhurried, and unapologetically classic. Antler chandeliers, candlelit tables, fresh flowers, and a crowd that generally seems to skew decidedly older, with regulars that have been coming here for decades. It feels less NKY suburb and more small-town American dining room, which is either a charm point or a tell depending on what you're looking for.
The Food The fried chicken is the reason people keep coming back — somehow both incredibly tender and impossibly juicy, with a crust that holds together from first bite to last. The open face roast beef with mashed potatoes, gravy, and house green beans is comfort food executed without apology. The goetta egg rolls — Glier's goetta and cabbage slaw with Thai chili dipping sauce rank high, and we're admittedly egg roll snobs. The onion rings are hand-cut, fresh sweet onion, and stupid good — restaurants mess up onion rings all the time, these don't miss a single bite.
The Bottom Line An NKY classic that earns the reputation. Come for the fried chicken, stay for everything else.
