wellfd exists to surface founder-owned, locally rooted restaurants before the world catches up with them. But occasionally, the world already has. These are concepts that exceed our ownership or scale criteria — grown beyond a single operator, expanded across regions, or structured in ways that fall outside what we measure — but were built with the same intention wellfd was created to celebrate.
We didn't include them. We couldn't. But we're not pretending they don't exist.
If you eat here, you'll understand why it was a hard call.
The flagship that launched a Northern Indian empire in Cincinnati. Jessi Singh from the Punjab region opened "Ambar"—meaning jewel in Hindi—in 1994, and it remains the crown jewel of Clifton's Gaslight District three decades later. Everything is made fresh daily with never-frozen chicken and authentic high-quality basmati rice. The kitchen specializes in tandoori dishes from the clay oven, rich curries like the legendary chicken tikka masala, and an extensive vegetarian selection that earned near-perfect marks from Citysearch. Spice levels run from mild to hair-on-fire six. The puffy bhatura bread alone is worth the trip.
