Eugene AllenA Florence-based taproom and sports bar anchored by one of the largest draft beer selections in Kentucky, 859 Taproom pairs a deep tap list with a full menu that punches above its weight. The kitchen sources beef locally from Whobrey's Farm in Sparta, Kentucky, while the bar pours more than 60 beers on tap alongside an extensive bourbon lineup. Jeff and Mandy took over in September 2021. Jeff spent more than 20 years as an executive chef. Mandy trained restaurant teams as a corporate trainer for Bonefish Grill. The two met years earlier — long before 859 Taproom — when Jeff was cooking in New York City and Mandy was working at AOL, eventually building both a family and a shared path into the restaurant business. The space is built for gathering: 19 TVs, a spacious interior, and outdoor seating that handles everything from casual dinners to game-day crowds.
Official Curated Review
Solid choice. Make the effort to get here. These are your reliable go-to spots, good food, good vibes, no regrets. Not a special-occasion destination, but consistently worth showing up for. The bread and butter of great local dining.
Some places are built around the food. 859 Taproom is built around the occasion — and it knows the difference.
We landed here on the first Friday of March Madness, and it felt like the room was designed for it. TVs everywhere, games stacked across every wall, and a steady buzz without tipping into chaos. You don’t miss a play, even if you’re mid-conversation or halfway into another round.
The bar is the backbone. Massive tap list, local options mixed with the usual suspects, and enough variety that nobody’s overthinking their next beer. You grab one, settle in, and stay awhile.
Stays in the expected lane — tacos, burgers, wraps, wings, shareables — but with more upside than you might expect. Fries were done right (nothing worse than undercooked fries that some restaurants serve). The Caribbean jerk chicken tacos stood out. Not just “good for a bar,” but genuinely solid and worth ordering again.
Everything else landed right where you want it. A round of “yeah, that’s good” across the table. No "holy shit, that's awesome" moments from any of the fellas, but more importantly, no misses.
This isn’t where you go for a meal you talk about all week. It’s where you go when the plan is the game, the group, and a few rounds — and you need a place that delivers across the board.
859 Taproom does exactly that.
